Sunday night and, despite being spring already, the cold still refuses to leave completely. To warm up a little I headed to Estraperlo Club del Ritme which hosts, today, the largest number of punk gigs in Barcelona, through promoters Hardcore for my Noise.
Perhaps Estraperlo’s only low point is its location, which is a bit far from the centre. But that turns out to be a good thing in the end, since for a place specialized in punk events there’s nothing better than being situated in a neighborhood where all you can see is warehouses and the likes.
Straight outta Boston, Mark Unseen (vocal), Tripp Underwood (bass), Scott Unseen & Jonny (guitars) and Melzard (drums) played their share of street punk to the kids present. Even though the public was not so numerous it connected well with the band and nearly stole the night, spreading great vibe to every corner of the venue. With a simple gesture with his hand, Mark commanded a very active mosh-pit and encouraged the kids to participate intensely to the choruses – especially during ‘Social Damage’, which sounds much faster and heavier live. Other songs that were extremely well received are ‘Force Fed’, ‘Weapons of Mass Deception’ and ‘Scream Out’, all from the album State of Discontent. ‘Live in Fear’, from The Anger and the Truth, was another highlight in its own right and deserves to be mentioned. From the latest album, released in 2007, the best moments came with ‘At Point Break’, ‘Break Away’ (with the crowd going berserk in the chorus) and ‘Right Before Your Eyes’.
Mark spent basically the whole gig crouched by the edge of the stage sharing the microphone with the fans, while the rest of the band did a great job keeping it up. Jonny, who can easily be taken as a teenager with his ‘mosquito figure’, was someone to look for with his furious performance.

The band finished the set with the cover ‘Paint It Black’, taken from State of Discontent.

Noite de domingo. Apesar de já estarmos na primavera, o frio ainda incomoda. Para esquentar um pouco, uma rápida esticada até o Estraperlo Club del Ritme, atualmente o clube punk com maior quantidade de shows agendados em Barcelona junto a promotora Hardcore For My Nose, especializada no estilo.

Talvez o único ponto fraco do Estraperlo seja a localização, um pouco distante do centro. Mas seria pedir muito um clube especializado em shows punk e com uma vizinhança de "puta madre" como se define por aqui algo que seja foda. Se analizarmos ao redor do clube, podemos ter certeza de que muitos shows serão realizados por ali porque ninguém irá queixar-se. O Estraperlo fica num polígono industrial em Badalona e foi criado dentro de um galpão onde a já citada vizinhança não são mais do que transportadoras, oficinas, depósitos, etc.


Provenientes de Boston, Mark Unseen (vocal), Tripp Underwood (baixo), Scott Unseen e Jonny (guitarras) e Melzard (bateria) exibiram o melhor do seu street-punk para a molecada presente. Apesar do local não contar com um numeroso público, como de hábito em shows punk/hardcore em Barcelona, a molecada que compareceu fez jus a excelente apresentação dos americanos e deu um show à parte.


Muito mosh-pit comandado por Mark que com um simples gesto com a mão fazia pista ferver e o mesmo público participava intensamente do coro das músicas, principalmente em "Social Damage", mais rápida e pesada ao vivo do que a versão de estúdio, "Force Fed", "Weapons of Mass Deception" e também "Scream Out", todas pertencentes ao álbum State of Discontent. "Live in Fear" do album The Anger and The Truth também teve seu destaque. Do álbum mais recente, lançado em 2007, os pontos altos foram "At Point Break", "Break Away" (com o público insano no refrão) e "Right Before Your Eyes".


Mark passou praticamente todo o show agaixado na borda do palco dividindo o microfone com a galera, enquanto a banda fazia um excelente trabalho. Outro que merece destaque é o guitarrista Jonny e seus um metro e meio de altura e porte atlético mosquito. Quem o vê na rua com certeza o confunde com um pré-adolescente, porém o simpático guitarrista tem uma energia furiosa.


Finalizaram a apresentação com o cover "Paint it Black" (Mick Jagger/Richards) pertencente ao já citado álbum State of Discontent.
