Já não é de hoje que novos nomes vêm dominando a brutalidade musical nas cenas hardcore e metalcore. A disputa tem sido acirrada entre algumas bandas, porém uma em especial sai em enorme vantagem: Walls of Jericho. E o motivo é bem simples: não encontramos uma banda tão brutal com uma mulher no vocal em qualquer esquina; e engana-se quem acha que a banda se tornou conhecida somente por isso.
No entanto, a noite não se limitou a já citada banda de Detroit. Figuraram no palco do clube Estraperlo (Hardcore For My Nose) os alemães do Final Prayer e os americanos do Nations Afire e Death Before Dishonour. Por motivos de força maior, não pude conferir ambas as apresentações, mas quem assistiu não se arrependeu.
A penúltima banda da noite foi o Death Before Dishonour, com seu hardcore destruidor. Apesar do pouco tempo de estrada, a banda vem ganhando merecido reconhecimento e apresentando ao vivo músicas de seus dois únicos lançamentos, o EP Friends and Family Forever (2005) e o debut Count Me In (2007), o que lhes rende uma média de 250 shows anuais. Em apresentação sólida, exibiram seu cardápio com "Time To Die", "By My Side", "Break Through It All" e "6.6.6. (Friends Family Forever)", esta última como ponto alto da apresentação. Após o show, em uma rápida conversa com Bryan (vocal), tive a oportunidade de "pescar" alguns detalhes sobre o futuro da banda. Lançam novo trabalho em 31 de Julho e pretendem tocar no Brasil no próximo outono, que representa para os norte-americanos os meses de Setembro, Outubro e Novembro. E disse também que a cena hardcore em Boston vai bem, obrigado.
Nem foi necessário apagar das luzes para o público dar uma calorosa recepção aos headliners. Utilizando como introdução “The New Ministry”, música que também abre o último álbum The American Dream (2008), Walls of Jericho subiu ao palco para um show destruidor, brutal e outras definições que melhor couberem dentro do que foi visto naquela noite. Ao entrar em cena, Candace pouco lembrava aquela pessoa tímida que atendia a um pedido de fotografia de um fã, enquanto assistia ao show do Death Before Dishonor no canto da sala – e quase pedindo para não ser vista. Completamente concentrada e já dominada pelos primeiros acordes da já citada música, esta frontwoman berrava de forma invejável. Impossível descrever com exatidão qual foi o ponto alto da performance. Temos que deixar claro que Candace não faz tudo sozinha, pois está muito bem acessorada por Mike Hasty e Chris Rawson que dão as bases nos vocais guturais. O mesmo Rawson parece ter mola nos pés e simplesmente decola com sua guitarra em punho. Aaron Ruby também não fica atrás; um pouco mais e ele transformaria seu baixo em um verdadeiro machado, que junto ao batera Dustin Schoenhofer faz estremecer qualquer estrutura.
Com uma hora de apresentação e uma seqüência que contou com, por exemplo, "A Trigger Full of Promises", "There's No I In Fuck You", "Playing Soldier Again", "And Hope to Die" e as recém lançadas "II The Prey" e "The American Dream" (durante as quais ficou nítido o amadurecimento musical do grupo) a banda se despediu de Barcelona e, mesmo sob insistentes pedidos de bis, não retornaram à cena do crime. Ao final, ficou a sensação daquele velho ditado: "se melhorar estraga".

This great night was not limited to this Detroit’s band gig only, since Germans of Final Prayer and Americans of Nations Afire and Death Before Dishonour opened the show. Too bad I only got to the venue on time to see the last 2 bands.
And DBD played a demolishing set. Despite being on the road for a short while, this band is getting well deserved recognition as they’re playing, in average, 250 gigs per year, where all their material (EP Friends and Family Forever, from 2005, and their full-lengh debut Count Me In, from 2007) is executed live. The highlights were definitely ‘Time To Die’, ‘By My Side’, ‘Break Through It All’ and ‘6.6.6. (Friends Family Forever)’. Right after the gig, I managed to have a quick chat with singer Brian and he said that their new album will be released on the 31st July. Oh yeah, and he also said that the hardcore scene in Boston is doing just fine, thank you very much.
It wasn’t even necessary to turn off the lights to make sure the public gave a very warm welcome to the headliners. During the intro “The New Ministry” (which also opens their latest CD, The American Dream) Walls of Jericho hit the stage to start their fucking killer show.
From the beginning, singer Candace looked like a complete different person from that shy girl I saw in the corner of the venue moments before, during DBD’s gig. Totally concentrated and already overtaken by the intro, this frontwoman took no prisoners with her screams. It is impossible to name a highlight but, also, we must keep in mind Candace didn’t do it all by herself. Guitarists Mike Hasty and Chris Rawson helped a lot with their ghrowling vocals, while bassist Aaron Ruby, combined with the drums of Dustin Schoenhofer, made the structures tremble.
After just over an hour of sonorous demolition where songs like ‘A Trigger Full of Promises’, ‘There's No I In Fuck You’, ‘Playing Soldier Again’, ‘And Hope to Die’, as well as recently released ‘II The Prey’ and ‘The American Dream’ (during which it was evident how much the band developed through the years) bombed the venue, Walls of Jericho thanked the public and left the stage. Even though the fans were shouting insistently for an encore, the band didn’t come back. But hey, I think we got the message.
