DAVID BAZANO Barcelona Ação Musical trouxe à cidade catalã shows de Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub e de bandas ainda desconhecidas

O BAM, Barcelona Ação Musical, é mais do que um simples festival de música. Já se tornou um autêntico guia para descobrir novas propostas e ainda ter a oportunidade de conferir bandas que fazem parte da história musical. Pop, punk, indie, folk, eletrônico, DJs, jazz, hip-hop, rumba e outras fusões criativas convivem pacificamente em shows gratuitos espalhados pela cidade, que este ainda ano contou com a participação das chamadas salas de shows, casas de shows de pequeno e médio porte como Bikini, L'Apolo. O festival acontece, propositalmente, durante as festividades da Mercè, padroeira da cidade, que este ano, aconteceu entre os dias 19 e 28 de setembro.
Dessa vez houve destaque absoluto para as novas tendências espanholas, usando como tempero alguns nomes da cena internacional. Foi o caso de Krakovia, Russian Red e Primal Scream. Foram mais de 70 apresentações em 13 palcos, com músicos de Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Cuba, França, Suécia, Finlandia, Canadá, Líbano e Nigéria. Os palcos principais foram o da Antiga Fábrica da Estrella Damm, o do excelente Espacio Movistar e Plaza Real, além de uma noite especial na Plaza del Rey. As propostas emergentes foram acolhidas na Plaza Dels Angels.
A festa começou na quinta-feira com dois shows para aquecer os ânimos. YAS com seu pop-eletrônico cantado em árabe no palco em frente ao Instituto Francês de Barcelona. Em recinto fechado e com vagas limitadas no CCCB [Centro de Cultura Conteporânea de Barcelona], se apresentou o BCNmp7. Porém foi sexta, dia 19, que a festa tomou forma definitiva.
Sexta-feira, 19. A revelação do rock canadense
Na Praza Real se apresentaram Raydibaum, banda local de pop/rock/alternativo, apresentando seu terceiro disco, Manual de Genere Catastròfic [2008], o primeiro da banda cantado em catalão. Em seguida foi a vez do pop/hip hop de Facto Delafé y Las Flores Azules com direito a balões coloridos espalhados pelo palco, bolhas de sabão e até confetes lançados ao público que prestigiou em peso a mais uma banda de BCN.
O terceiro show da noite foi o primeiro [e único] internacional a pisar na Praza Real, Sam Roberts. Praticamente desconhecido na Europa, este canadense chegou disposto a conquistar seu espaço apresentando seu terceiro disco, Love at the End of the World [2008] que foi número um de vendas em seu país após lançamento. Trata-se de uma mistura de rock e folk bem ao estilo norte-americano com temperos de power pop.
Confesso que foi surpresa vê-lo por aqui, pois acompanho este músico desde minha passagem por seu país de origem e jamais havia escutado alguém mencionar seu nome na Espanha, mas para a proposta do BAM a escolha não poderia ser melhor. O público não se rendeu à chuva que insistia em cair, muito menos Sam e sua banda pareciam se importar com meras gotinhas que vinham do céu. O ponto alto do show foi Brothers Down do primeiro EP Inhuman Condition [2002].
Para fechar esta noite o escolhido foi o quinteto Siniestro Total, punk-rock galego [de Vigo] que fez a festa dos muitos punks presentes. Com quase 30 anos de estrada, eles não decepcionaram e provaram estar em forma tocando inclusive sua versão de Sweet Home Alabama para Miña Terra Galega.
Os fãs de hip-hop tiveram uma boa pedida no palco MTV-Fòrum, com as atrações Chacho Brodas, Shotta, Ari e Calle 13 provenientes de Barcelona, Sevilha, República Dominicana e Porto Rico respectivamente.
O Fórum contava ainda com um palco dedicado somente à música eletrônica. Nas redondezas ainda passaram pelos palcos de Fabra i Coats o The Pepper Pots com seu Ska/Reggae e Soul que tem à frente 3 vocalistas e uma excelente banda de apoio. Apesar de serem catalãs, as letras são em inglês. Também passou por este palco La kinky Beat, mais um grupo que mistura tudo, Jungle, Reggae, Rock e por aqui virou sensação underground.
Sábado, 20. Uma dúvida: pra que palco a gente vai? Ah sim, o Primal Scream
Realmente o sábado foi um dia recheado de atrações e com certeza essas tantas boas pedidas foram propositalmente espalhadas para dividir o público. No palco Plaza de L'Odissea se apresentaram Nudozurdo com seu rock/indie proveniente de Madrid cantado em castelhano. Em seguida Camping, excelente banda de rock alternativo de Barcelona [com letras em inglês], apresentando seu trabalho mais recente Politics of Love [2008] e em conjunto vendendo Politics of Hate [2008], um EP que só pode ser adquirido em shows. Ainda houve tempo para (lo:muêso) com seu noise/rock e prestes a lançar seu terceiro disco. São as bandas espanholas crescendo na cena internacional.
Logo ao lado, na Plaza Real se apresentaram Le Petit Ramón Experimenta 3, Love of Lesbian, Los Niños Mutantes e The Automatic. Com exceção do último, todos espanhóis. O The Automatic, do País de Gales, debutavam em Barcelona com seu indie rock apresentando seu recente trabalho This is a Fix [2008]. Porém grande parte do público se concentrou mesmo no palco montado em frente à antiga fábrica da Estrella Damm, onde na verdade ficou o palco principal do festival, que recebeu nesta noite a banda de pop alternativo local Mishima para aquecer os ânimos. Em seguida Antònia Font com seu pop psicodélico, que muitas vezes lembra uma trilha sonora de filme, abriu para a grande atração do festival, o Primal Scream.
Os britânicos já haviam passado por Barcelona fazendo um pré-lançamento de Beautiful Future [2008] no festival Summercase, há dois meses, e deram mais uma vez as cartas para levar o público ao delírio, não somente com músicas antigas como Imperial do álbum Sonic Flower Groove [1987], Movin' On Up do aclamado Screamadelica [1991], Accelerator de xtrmntr [2000], Contry Girl do recente álbum Riot City Blues [2006], tocada a pedidos, mas também deixaram bem claro que a turnê é do disco novo e ejá na abertura lá estavam a faixa título e a empolgante Can`t Go Back, além da dançante Zombie Man e outras um pouco mais lentas como Glory of Love, Beautiful Summer e Urban Guerrilla, provando que apesar dos anos de estrada, esta galera não deixa pedra sobre pedra.
No outro lado da cidade, no palco MTV-Fòrum começava a sessão corujão. Muita gente foi embora após o Primal, mas muitos seguiram para conferir Supersubmarina, pop/indie espanhol, Vetusta Morla com seu rock alternativo madrilenho, o punk rock/glam do Krakovia, também de Madrid. Quem já teve outras oportunidades de conferir ao vivo, sabe que é sempre muito interessante vê-los. Teve espaço ainda para os locais La Casa Azul com seu pop/club retrô.
Domingo, 21. O velho Teenage Fanclub
No Domingo, o que se destacava entre muitas atrações eram os britânicos do The Whip e sua mistura do pop made in Manchester com música eletrônica, numa noite indie/rock que prometia muito no Espacio Movistar. Quem foi a Sala Apolo ver o The Whip presenciou algo mais moderno e dançou bastante, enquanto quem foi ao Movistar conferiu uma noite mais nostálgica.
Apesar de The Last 3 Lines terem feito um excelente show e confirmado o posto de uma das bandas promissoras de Barcelona, os belgas do Sharko não "levantaram" tanto assim o público presente. Ao contrário das suecas Sahara Hotnights, que com seu rock ou powerpop básico, agradaram em cheio, com destaque para a vocalista Maria Andersson, que além da elegância de portar saltos altos e calças bem ajustadas ainda toca sua guitarra com um estilo de dar inveja. Destaque para Cheek to Cheek do recente álbum What if Leaving is a Loving Thing [2007].
Para fechar a noite os escoceses Teenage Fanclub, que de teenagers já não têm nada. O que vimos foi um grupo de cabelos bem agrisalhados tocando, cujo primeiro disco foi lançado há 18 anos. Mesmo assim valeu a pena conferir músicas como Starsing de Bandwagonesque [1991], About You e Mellow Doubt do álbum Grand Prix [1995]. I Need Direction e Dumb Dumb Dumb de Howdy [2000] e até It`s All in My Mind do útimo álbum lançado Man-Made [2005]; Time Stops deste último também marcou presença no setlist. Olhar em volta e ver a multidão cantando, muitos vestindo camisas da banda, é perceber que a história destes escoceses fala mais alto.
Segunda, 22. Ainda tá rolando?
A data quase passa despercebida, não fosse alguns concertos na sala Bikini. Funking Chaos, com seu funk experimental proveniente de Barcelona, foi o responsável por abrir a noite. Jamie Woon da Inglaterra seguiu a noite com seu soul/funk e José James de Nova Yorke com jazz/soul fechou a noite que mais serviu para um relax mental depois de um fim de semana com tantas guitarras e misturas musicais.
Terça, 23. Volta à maratona de shows
Noite de terça-feira e mais uma maratona gratuita de shows. Eram tantas as opções que o público mais uma vez ficou dividido. Com a colaboração da Red Bull Music Academy estava previsto para o palco Plaza dels Àngels o show do brasileiro Ed Motta que, por algum motivo ainda não esclarecido, foi cancelado. Uma pena já que o público brasileiro residente ou a passeio em Barcelona compareceu em peso ao palco montado diante do Museu de Arte Conteporânea.
Entre as estreitas ruas do bairro gótico e atrás da catedral, mais precisamente na Plaza del Rei, se encontrava entre paredes de pedras sólidas de séculos passados um palco mais escondido, onde iria se apresentar Russian Red, uma jovem que aos 22 anos se converteu numa das maiores promessas indie da Espanha, além do American Music Club. Muita gente reclamou que o acesso ao local era espremido e difícil [estava lotado], mas foi muito bem escolhido por dar um ambiente mais íntimo ao show.
Vale lembrar que no festival Primavera Sound, a senhorita Lourdes Hernándes [verdadeiro nome da cantora] não conseguiu dar esta atmosfera a seu show devido às interferências sonoras de outros palcos; era nítida a cara de desconforto da jovem.
Bem próximo dali também estavam outras boas pedidas. De volta à Plaza Reial se apresentaram Pumuky, banda de Tenerife, que deixou muita distorção no ar e os garçons dos restaurantes ao redor com cara igualmente distorcidas. The Secret Society apresentou em show acústico e solo do vocalista , com músicas de seus EPs e do CD Sad Boys Dance When No One´s Watching [2005]; já que o resto da banda por algum motivo [também não esclarecido] não deu as caras.
A terceira atração da noite foi David Bazan, ex-lider da banda Pedro the Lion, que também fez um show acústico. Se manteve por mais de uma hora comandando seu público com sua excelente voz e seu pequeno violão. Não é à toa que é considerado pela revsita Paste como um dos 100 melhores compositores/intérpretes em vida na atualidade. E para fechar a noite na Pl. Reial lá estavam The Long Winters , banda de John Roderick que apesar das conturbadas mudanças de formação vem mantendo a formação atual há algum tempo. Havia uma expectativa muito grande para o show e a chuva que insistia cair desde o primeiro dia de festival não parecia baixar os ânimos dos americanos, levando em consideração que são de Seattle e talvez quisessem ver dias mais bonitos do que o de costume em sua cidade.

A chuva ameaçou e não caiu, mas o show cumpriu as expectativas do público e os longos invernos não decepcionaram. Apresentando músicas como Blue Diamonds, Cinnamon e Stupid do álbum When I Pretend to Fall [2003], Pushover e a honestíssima Honest de Putting the Days to Bed [2006], eles levantaram de vez o público que não deixava escapar uma única palavra das letras; de repente todos viraram fluentes em inglês. Durante a apresentação o grupo ainda promoveu um troca-troca de instrumentos, vocalista vai para o piano, baixista na guitarra, guitarrista no baixo e de quebra a participação mais que especial de David Bazan em uma das músicas.
No fim das contas, o BAM 2008 encerrou suas atividades nesta noite mesmo, embora as atividades culturais na cidade tenham seguido até o último domingo do mês. No dia 24 houve uma queima de fogos já tradicional em Barcelona para celebrar o dia da padroeira da cidade. Algo semelhante à queima de fogos no reveillon de Copacabana, e que por aqui, também pôs um ponto final no belo verão musical que passou.

The BAM, Barcelona Action Musical, is more than a simple music Festival. Has become a genuine Guide to discover new proposals and still have the opportunity to see bands that are part of pop/rock history. Pop, punk, indie, folk, electronic, DJs, Jazz, hip-hop, Rumba mergers and other creative living peacefully in free concerts spread by the city of Barcelona, it has year with participation of the so-called rooms shows, venues of small and mid size as Bikini, l'Apolo. The Festival is purposely during festivities of Mercé, patron Saint of City, which this year, happened between 19 and 28 September.
This was highlighted for the new Spanish trends, using as a seasoning some names on the international stage. Was the case of Krakovia, Russian Red and Primal Scream. There were over 70 presentations on 13 stages, with musicians from United States, England, Cuba, France, Sweden, Finland, Canada, Lebanon and Nigeria. The main stage were of the former factory Estrella Damm, the excellent Espacio Movistar and Plaza Real, plus a special evening in Plaza del Rey. The proposals emerging were received in the Plaza dels Angels.
The festival began on Thursday with two shows to heat. Yas with your electronical-pop sung in Arabic on stage in front of the French Institute of Barcelona. Indoor, at CCCB [Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona], the BCNmp7. However was Friday, 19th, that the party has taken.

I was surprised him here, because I share this musician since my living in their country of origin and had never heard someone mention their name in Spain, but for the proposal of the BAM, it couldn't be better. The highlight of the show was "Brothers Down" of the first EP Inhuman Condition [2002].
To close this evening was chosen the quintet Siniestro Total, punk-rock band from Galícia [Vigo] that celebrate the many punks present. With almost 30 years, they do not disappointed and proved to be in shape, including your version of "Sweet Home Alabama" to "Miña Terra Galega".

The Forum included a stage dedicated only to the electronic music. Still passed by the stage of Fabra i Coats The Pepper Pots with your ska/reggae and soul with the 3 frontgirls and an excellent band support. Despite being Catalan, the letters are in English. To close the night the Scots Teenage Fanclub, which already teenagers have nothing. What we saw was a group of gray hairs playing, whose first album was released there are 18 years. Monday, 22. Still around?
The date is almost unnoticed, was not some concerts at the Bikini room. Funking Chaos, with their funk experimental from Barcelona, was responsible for the open night. Jamie Woon from England followed the evening with your soul/funk and José James new York with jazz/soul closed the night that served to a mental relax after a weekend with so many guitars and mixtures.
Tuesday, 23. Back to Marathon shows
Night of Tuesday and another marathon of free concerts. Were so many options that the public once divided. The Red Bull Music Academy was laid down for the stage Plaza dels Àngels the show of Brazilian Ed Motta that for some reason, was canceled. So sad for the Brazilians resident or in Barcelona for visiting were there to the stage mounted in front of the Conterporary Art Museum.
Between the narrow streets and behind the Cathedral on Plaza del Rey, was between the walls of solid stones from the past centuries a stage more hidden, which would present Russian Red, a young singer of 22 years of age has become one of the greatest indie promises of Spain, in addition to the American Music Club. Ultimately, the BAM 2008 closed activities this evening, although the cultural activities in the City have followed up the last Sunday of the month. On September 24th there was fireworks already traditional in Barcelona to celebrate the day of the patron Saint of the City. Something similar to the traditional fireworks in the new year's eve Copacabana, and here, also put an end to the beautiful musical summer.
